Technicians who deliver home health equipment, physical therapists who get patients back on their feet, pharmacists and nurses and doctors and all of the administrators who make their jobs possible—living through a pandemic has given the staff of WV Living a fresh appreciation for the many thousands of people across the state who dedicate their days to keeping all of us healthy.

The Amatos met on an ambulance as EMTs in their native Queens, New York, in the 1970s. They moved to Terra Alta in 2011. Both serve as first responders and volunteer with the health department. They ensure senior residences are aware of COVID-19 vaccination opportunities. “Their synergy benefits both the Ambulance Squad and community,” says nominator Robin Turner- Grimshaw. Tony is a longtime member, and Sheila more recently, of Mercy Ships, volunteering annually to provide life-altering surgeries to coastal African countries.
