Buckhannon is known for its Main Street—a foodie haven with mouthwatering choices like a burger piled high or fresh sushi every weekend. Shops and boutiques keep the town vibrant, highlighting the creativity of local makers. But the best part of Buckhannon is what you’ll find beyond downtown. Find trails that are perfect for families or evening strolls at the Riverwalk Trail. For more adventure, try the Upshur County Trails, made by mountain bikers for mountain bikers. Paddle a water trail on the Buckhannon River with multiple river access points. Make a trip complete with a stop by rustic Audra State Park or the WV Wildlife Center. The Buckhannon area is located close to other great West Virginia destinations, too, making this town a perfect weekend getaway.
Buckhannon has a vibrant downtown that is full of local boutiques & shops, public art installations, and tasty restaurants. Along with a growing sense of adventure, Buckhannon has mountain bike trails, river access points, and plenty of chances to experience the Wild & Wonderful of West Virginia. Moved here from Michigan a few years ago, live in Morgantown. Never visited Buckhannon before but heard of it!!
Only visited Fairmont and Morgantown where my husbands family lives. We haven’t had the time or the funds to travel and explore everything beautiful that West Virginia has and places to visit.
And due to the Pandemic, and fears of Covid with my health issues and traveling, really stopped us from adventuring the state.
If we were to win this “getaway” I’m sure our 3 sons and us would have a great time bonding and being a family instead of worrying about working and the cash flow to pay our bills!
We need time as a family together, we miss being so close with everyone’s different work schedules.

Great Getaway!
Downtown Buckhannon would be a great place to shop and visit the variety of restaurants. The historic buildings are good for photos, and I hear that it’s a welcoming town to tourists. The Riverwalk trail looks like a great opportunity to walking along the river and enjoy the slower pace of a small town. I’m looking forward to hiking the local trails and getting out in the country too.

There are so many things to love about Buckhannon. Some of my favorite restaurants are there, like CJ Maggie’s, or Mama Rosa. You couldn’t find a prettier little town anywhere, Buckhannon has an interesting downtown with several antique shops, adorned with gorgeous flowers and a lovely courthouse. Jaw Bone Park hosts events that the community enjoys and supports. WV Wesleyan College is a beautiful and stately campus. I especially enjoy the park by the river and the dog park. Streets are lined with older homes that are well maintained with manicured lawns. The thing I love most about Buckhannon though is the people. The residents are the friendliest in the Mountain State. Buckhannon is my favorite little town I’ve visited in West Virginia.

We have never visited Buckhannon before but have definitely heard of it because it has SOOO many amazing sights, sounds and places to visit for adults, families and couples. Our daughter is turning 9 that weekend and we really haven’t been able to do anything for her recently and be able to go anywhere due to that horrible thing called COVID. This would be an amazing treat and surprise for her birthday weekend and a fun family trip. I know she would go straight to the Wildlife center and the dog park to pet and see dogs. She LOVES animals. She also would be SOOO excited to take part in the show Clue to see if she could be a detective that night. Thank you so much for the opportunity!

I think of Buckhannon the most when I think of my Great grandparents from New Brunswick Canada who settled there around 1891. My Great Grandmother, Jane McLeod McLean and her six year old daughter were buried in the Heavner Cemetery. I love that place and it’s meaning. Growing up we visited the Game Farm and the Stardust Drive-in. Happy memories. We continue to carry on the name Jane and are now in the great, great, great granddaughter generation of Jane. Carry on beautiful Buckhannon!
