Be inspired by West Virginia Authors with this card game for the whole family.
How many West Virginia authors can you name? Who are your children’s favorite West Virginia authors?
Our state has a broad and proud literary tradition—from children’s books and epic histories to journalism, memoir, and poetry. But our knowledge of our state’s writers tends to be scant. Have you read books by more than a few West Virginians?
To highlight the state’s literary lights, WV Living magazine teamed up with Curated Wonder to create a card game that will make sure our state’s writers are household names. West Virginia Authors is a Go Fish–style matching game featuring 11 of our state’s distinguished authors—Pearl S. Buck, Homer Hickam, Bil Lepp, and eight others. In the game, players become familiar with the names of some of the writers’ more popular books while collecting four-title sets of cards to win.
The 56-card deck includes a short biography of each of the authors. Smooth-finish cards bear author portraits and a vivid design by West Virginia artist Payton Brown, and the deck comes in a heavy-duty storage box.
Designed so that even pre-readers who know colors and the numerals 1 through 4 can play, the West Virginia Authors card game is good family fun. It’s a great way to give kids pride in their home state and inspire them to read—maybe even to write. It can be purchased online at The F.A.R.M. or Curated Wonder—or ask for it at your local independent bookstore.
