Harpers Ferry
Harpers Ferry is an eight-time winner of Best Town for History, and for good reason. This town has seen it all. Before the American Revolutionary War, ferries shuttled early settlers across the Potomac River. John Brown’s 1859 U.S. arsenal raid took place here, and the town changed hands 14 times during the Civil War that followed. Harpers Ferry is also home to one of the earliest integrated schools in the nation. Here you can take a step back in time at sites like the Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, the John Brown Wax Museum, or get your fill of adventure on the Appalachian Trail. discoveritallwv.com
