On Friday evening, experience the holidays with newfound joy as you and your guests board our train and get whisked away to the North Pole to pick up Santa Claus and save Christmas. Enjoy caroling, milk and cookies, and hot cocoa and cider—everyone can relive the magic of Christmas on The North Pole Express.
On Saturday, grab breakfast at The Romney Diner, the “Little Place with a Big Heart,” or join the Romney Volunteer Fire Department for breakfast with Santa at 8 a.m. Don’t forget to build a gingerbread house with The Hampshire County Library! After the annual “Christmas in Romney” grand feature parade, head over to FNB Bank at 1 p.m. for their 82nd Annual Christmas party. Jingle all the way and experience the holiday magic as you are pulled down the streets of our little Hallmark town in a one-horse open sleigh and warm up with a cup of hot cocoa! Visit the Kristkindl Market set up on High Street! Gig’s BBQ will be set up at the market, serving his famous BBQ and country sides. During your Romney visit, be sure to stop by The White House on Main, The Country Store on Main, and Anderson’s Corner to do some Christmas shopping. The Hampshire County Marketplace & Co-Op is a must-see, a venue for local juried art, music, books, and gourmet and farm products and offering classes and workshops.
Enjoy eating at favorite local restaurants around Romney during your stay, including The Romney Diner, Lost Mountain BBQ, and Italian Touch. Take a drive to Augusta after dark to see The Christmas Festival of Lights, a beautiful display that you can enjoy from the warmth and comfort of your own vehicle free of charge. There were more than 225 displays in 2021! Then, grab a bite to eat from El Centro Pizzeria, offering Italian and Mexican cuisine.
Take a scenic drive through Slanesville to the Farmhouse Studio in Points, a modern-day marketplace tucked away on the family farm in rural West Virginia. The two-story farmhouse is filled with a unique mix of artisan goods and a variety of carefully curated products.
New Leaf Greenhouse & Market is located west of Romney, and you’ll find baked goods, Appalachian products, locally crafted unique items, flower arrangements, and more.
During your stay at the South Branch Inn, don’t forget to stop at Spring Valley Farm Market. Owners Eli and Misty farm over 400 acres of diversified fruits and vegetables on their family farm in Hampshire County, West Virginia. They also carry a variety of jams, jellies, dip mixes, honey, nuts, and Christmas items. Main Street Grill offers a diverse menu of lunch and dinner items. Route 50 Biscuits & Burgers is open for breakfast on Sunday morning, and they also have a great selection on their lunch and dinner menu.
Visit Capon Bridge to stroll through the amazing Christmas Tree Forests. Enjoy the shops in this charming little river town, including Bent River Trading Company, a cultural store showcasing West Virginia–made products. Stop by The River House, a community arts and music venue and coffee shop. While you’re in Capon Bridge, Augusta, and Slanesville, don’t forget to search for hidden elves!
