Jog down a candy cane lane this holiday season.

For the second year in a row, Oglebay in Wheeling has offered the perfect event for those whose idea of festive holiday fun is walking through a winter wonderland—or taking it up a notch and jogging.
The Twinkle Trot is a 5K race through a portion of Oglebay’s beloved Festival of Lights. More than 800 runners and walkers wound their way through the spectacular light show at Oglebay during last year’s inaugural race. Many participants decked themselves out in creative holiday garb, including flashing Christmas bulb necklaces and Santa hats and pajamas, as they trotted through light tunnels, down a candy cane lane, and past the park’s many sparkling displays.
2024 trotters saw some changes to the event this year. “We’ve fine-tuned the race route and made logistical improvements to help with traffic flow and accommodate the growing number of participants,” Oglebay Director of Special Events & Programming Andy Brown says. Racers are always welcome to jog or walk, but it is requested that they bring a flashlight or headlight so they and their fellow walkers or runners can safely see the path after dark. The race happens rain or shine, with pre-race activities for all ages, including a DJ spinning holiday tunes and the chance to score a selfie with Santa.
While the 2024 Twinkle Trot took place on November 24, that doesn’t mean the fun is done! Oglebay’s Festival of Lights will be glowing now through January 5, 2025. The 6-mile route is decorated with more than 100 displays, taking you past notable Oglebay landmarks and attractions, such as Good Zoo, Schenk Lake, and the resort’s golf courses.
