Don your best dirndls and lederhosen—it’s time for OktoberWest.
CHARLESTON’S WEST SIDE IS GEARING UP to transform Washington Street West into one of the biggest and most anticipated events of the fall: OktoberWest. The beloved event will have the beer flowing and the good times rolling for its 15th year on Saturday, September 30.
OktoberWest is the largest traditional German Oktoberfest found in the state, and it is living up to the challenge. From 4 to 9 p.m., guests can participate in contests like stein holding, keg rolling, and sausage tossing. Drink craft beer from international, national, and local brewers, and enjoy live performances on the City National Bank Stage—Joshua Runyon opens, followed by LowDown Brass Band and headliner Southern Avenue.
Ticket prices start as low as $10 for children 12 and under. The VIP ticket for $65 gets you a collection of perks, from a collectible stein and pretzel necklace to VIP beers and more. Purchase your tickets early—all prices go up by $5 at the gate. The best part of the evening? Proceeds go right back into the West Side community. “We have a few different events throughout the year,” says Leah Dunmyer, director of marketing and development for Charleston Main Streets. “We want the public to know that while they’re out having fun, they’re out helping the community as well.”
Charleston Main Streets supports many local businesses, according to Dunmyer. OktoberWest in particular benefits existing business owners and new ones on the West Side along with projects for public art and revitalization. cwvmainstreets.org
