Join the Pricketts Fort Memorial Foundation in celebrating a half-century of preserving history.

In 1774, long before West Virginia gained statehood, a fort was built near present-day Fairmont. It was a place of refuge, a safe haven for early settlers to wait out attacks by Native Americans. Though the original structure is lost to time, a reconstruction was built in 1976 by the Pricketts Fort Memorial Foundation at what is now Prickett’s Fort State Park, a day-use park just outside Fairmont.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the fort’s reconstruction and subsequent status as a symbol of regional history, and the Foundation is ready to celebrate. On Friday, June 5, 2026, Prickett’s Fort’s 50th Anniversary Celebration kicks off at 5 p.m. with a reception and dinner. Guests are invited back for opening ceremonies on Saturday with a chance to explore the area and learn about its history, enjoying live music and free concerts throughout the evening.
To learn more about the celebrations, call the Pricketts Fort Memorial Foundation office at 304.363.3030 or visit its website, prickettsfort.org.
