Superpower: Saving animals

Owner and Veterinarian, Chloe Veterinary Clinic
Since she was just 7 years old, Nicole Moskes-Haverty knew she wanted to be a veterinarian. Her family always had dogs and cats, and she got to visit the cows and other farm animals at her grandparents’ farm on weekends. “Animals were always a love for me,” she says.
After working in North Carolina at a commercial hog farm and working with research and teaching animals at NC State University, she decided to enroll in a fast-track veterinary school at Ross University in the Caribbean. Moskes-Haverty spent about 14 years at two clinics in Ohio, then moved back to Pennsylvania to be closer to family for another four years.
When she met her husband, a Tucker County native, the couple moved to West Virginia, where she started Chloe Veterinary Clinic. Based out of Calhoun County, the mobile pet care clinic opened in fall 2024. “We serve areas where there’s no vet service for miles and miles around,” Moskes-Haverty says. “We operate on weekends, serving pet owners who have busy schedules during the week and providing in-home service to those who require a more peaceful environment.”
Moskes-Haverty posts the monthly calendar at the top of the clinic’s Facebook page so folks can know when and where they can bring their dog or cat for care at one of the 13 locations across nine counties in the rotation. “It just seems like it really fits with the culture in West Virginia,” she says. “It seemed like second nature to us, that this is the thing to do. This is how we can help people and help the animals.”
