WV Living Book Club is gearing up for a new year of West Virginia reads.
WE WRAPPED UP THE 2024 CHAPTER of the WV Living Book Club with a truly unforgettable story. On November 6, readers joined in-person and virtually to listen to author and educator Katherine Manley talk about her book, Don’t Tell’em You’re Cold: A Memoir of Poverty and Resilience.
The conversation was as warm and familiar as the beans and cornbread served. Manley talked about her experiences growing up in the southern coal camps of West Virginia, shared stories from her career in education and how she was able to help students experiencing a similar upbringing, and how those early years informed the rest of her life—an inspiring, heartwarming evening starring a West Virginian who never met a challenge she couldn’t face.
For 2025, we have a new line-up of reads and deep dives based on the Mountain State and its people. We are starting off strong with a read that reminds us to enjoy the tinier things in life. Illustrator and author Rosalie Haizlett has an eye for capturing the natural world through art, vibrant watercolor images that make her subjects feel alive on the page. So, it only makes sense that her six-month journey through the Appalachian Mountains would turn into a stunningly illustrated book that chronicles her travels from Alabama up to Newfoundland, as well as showcasing the non-human beings that call the mountains home.
Haizlett will be joining us on March 20, 2025 for one of WV Living Book Club’s most colorful meetings. To register, visit wvliving.com/bookclub.
Bookstores and libraries are invited to join in on the fun! To become a participating partner, register on our Book Club page.
