THE HUMAN TOUCH
Leslie Bicksler
Vice President of Human Resources, West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine
SUPERPOWER: Cultivating the potential in others
Leslie Bicksler was born and raised in Lewisburg before moving to Washington, D.C., for a few years. “I didn’t know it was on my list to come back to West Virginia, but it was the best decision I made,” she says. “West Virginia offers all the opportunities I really hoped for for myself and my family.”
In 2005, Bicksler joined the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine, and she has served as vice president of human resources there for over five years. “When I look at the successes, it is definitely because of the team of people working together to make stuff happen,” she says. “There are different personalities and backgrounds, so every employee hopefully has someone they can relate to. That’s my goal.”
When she’s not at the WVSOM, Bicksler can be found working on the State Fair of West Virginia Endowment Fund to support scholarships, education enrichment programs, and agricultural premiums. “Our family has been committed to making places and organizations better than we left them, and I felt like this was an opportunity to make a contribution in a meaningful way.”
Bicksler remains excited about her work and feels more connected to West Virginia than ever. “I want to be a part of an organization that isn’t just making gadgets, but is making a contribution to making the world a better place,” she says. “At the end of the day, I feel a real sense of responsibility. If you want things to be good, then you get in there and do your part.”
