Superpower: Making women feel heard

Board-Certified OB-GYN and Co-Founder, Novella Women’s Health
Dr. Jessica Hott doesn’t want her legacy to be measured by the number of surgeries she has performed over the years. Instead, she hopes it’s measured by the number of lives she’s been able to impact. Realizing the difference she could make in the lives of women in West Virginia, Hott co-founded Novella Women’s Health in Martinsburg in 2026 with her business partner, Alexandra “Ali” Wisenall. Together, their goal is to improve quality of life, empower women through education and compassion, and provide exceptional care.
The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine shaped Hott’s outlook on health care, as she saw how everything in the body is connected. During her residency, she grew interested in minimally invasive surgical techniques and considered becoming a general surgeon, but she was drawn to OB-GYN because every challenge was so unique. She loved the opportunity to be innovative and to develop long-term relationships with her patients. She was recruited by WVU Medicine, where she worked for nearly 12 years. But last year, she found herself inspired to try something new.
“We wanted to create a space where women felt genuinely heard, to provide access to advanced medical care here instead of being referred out, and to care for them in a more streamlined, convenient, and accessible way,” Hott says.
As a board-certified OB-GYN, her specialty is minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, especially with complex endometriosis cases. A particular point of pride for her is being listed on the patient-vetted U.S. Excision Specialist Directory of endometriosis surgeons. “Our hope is to create lasting change long before surgery is needed and long after a patient leaves our office,” she says. Hott is also proud of the space Novella offers—more like a spa than a clinic, offering a beautiful and comfortable environment to access preventive care, to receive advanced gynecological services, and to be heard by a compassionate provider.
