Keeping it close to home, the Monongalia County Fair kicks off on August 12 with the annual parade in downtown Morgantown. The fairgrounds are open August 13–17 and offer a variety of live music, demolition derbies, racing pigs, ax throwing, carnival rides, and tasty fair food. You won’t want to miss it.

The 78th annual Buckwheat Festival takes place September 26–29 in Kingwood. Enjoy parades, arts and crafts, carnival fun, and vendors. Don’t miss out on the buckwheat cakes and sausages that will be served all weekend long.

The Forest Festival in Elkins is one of the largest and oldest festivals in West Virginia. Celebrate the beauty of the Mountain State September 28– October 6, while enjoying the leaves turning orange and gold on the surrounding mountains. There is something for everyone including live music, forestry exhibits, amusement rides, and even a lumberjack contest.

The Mothman Festival in Point Pleasant is a hub for paranormal fun. People travel from all over the world to attend the festival September 21–22, and several events will take place. Visit the Mothman Museum & Research Center or take a ride on the guided bus tour of Mothman sightings. You might also enjoy the vendor exhibits, guest speakers, hayride, and pancake-eating contest.

Make your own old-fashioned apple butter at The Apple Harvest Festival October 5–6 in Burlington. The festival features arts and crafts, entertainment, flea markets, games, and amusement rides. Yum.
