SUPERPOWER: Determination

Family Law Attorney, Erica Lord Law Group
Attorney Erica Lord has always wanted to help others, but since the death of her son Liam, her efforts have often been made in honor of his memory and to help teach her other children the importance of giving back. Prominent among those initiatives is Liam’s Place, a supervised visitation center for families facing hardships that operates more like a home than anything else. “It’s not a sterile environment,” Lord explains. “I didn’t want to just rent a building for them to come to. It’s an actual house, so kids are more comfortable coming. There’s a kitchen in there with an air fryer and things like that if the parents want to cook or bring stuff for the kids.”
“For the kids” is an apt description of all that Lord does for her community. Little League sports teams are sponsored by her each year, and she’s happy to help give kids support that might otherwise be out of reach. Along with her mother, who also helps her run Liam’s Place, she has held backpack, suitcase, and coat drives for kids in foster care. “So many kids in the foster care system are taking their stuff in trash bags from house to house,” she says, and the backpacks and suitcases offer dignity as well as something of their very own that they know will be consistent wherever they must go.
This past year, Lord took it a step further and helped raise an incredible amount of money to give a truly magical Christmas to more than 70 kids in care, and she can’t wait to do it again. “We’re going to make it even bigger next year!”
While out making change through community service, Lord has fashioned her firm, Erica Lord Law Group, around helping children and families. There, she is an attorney practicing in the area of family law, including divorce, child custody, adoptions, and guardianship proceedings.
