The Champion Director
Cassie Smith
Director, West Virginia Interscholastic Cycling League
Three-time National Mountain Biking champion and Director of the West Virginia Interscholastic Cycling League Cassie Smith is dedicated to spreading her love of her favorite sport. Smith is a Virginia native who moved to Morgantown for college. She fell in love with the Mountain State and decided to stay. After 25 years of mountain biking, it is safe to say that it is her passion. And when she learned about the National Interscholastic Cycling Association, she “wanted to make it happen in West Virginia.”
Mountain biking has done a lot for her and her family, Smith says, which is why she chooses to share her experience with others. And the difference that NICA makes is what drives her. “It’s really rewarding to get families involved in something that’s healthy and fun.” The growth of young athletes drives her, too. “Seeing the light bulb go off and them really embracing mountain biking on their own is really, really inspiring to me.”
Smith plans to continue her work with her organization, and, when it is time to hand her position over to the next director, she aspires to be the best coach she can possibly be.
