Apple Crisp

This dish is a crisp fall day in a bowl, exuding its own flavorful warmth—even with a scoop of decadent ice cream on top.
Ingredients
- 1⅓ cups maple-flavored instant oatmeal 4 packets
- 1 stick cold salted butter cut into 1 tablespoon–sized pieces, divided
- 2 pounds apples 4 large or 5 medium, peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch chunks
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°.
- Add instant oatmeal to a medium bowl. Add 6 tablespoons of butter, pressing and squeezing it into the oats with your fingertips until moist crumbs form. Transfer to the refrigerator.
- Melt remaining butter in a 10-inch skillet over medium-high heat. Add apples and cook, stirring until caramelized in spots and beginning to soften—5 to 7 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Transfer apples to a 2-quart baking dish and scatter topping over apples.
- Bake until juices around the edges of the baking dish are bubbling and topping is golden-brown and crisp, approximately 20 minutes.
- Let cool for 10 minutes. Serve and enjoy with or without ice cream.
