This scenic Pocahontas County state park is extra jolly during the holiday season.
Christmas is a special time to visit Cass Scenic Railroad State Park. The row of company houses in the historic town—pictured here—is adorned each year with festive white lights and cherry red ribbons, creating an atmosphere that is merry and bright. Book a stay in one of the old houses and use it as a great base from which to explore the park and surrounding area. Several of them have been renovated and offer room for two to 14 people.
The park is a cheery and festive excursion in the winter months: Explore the museum, the theater, and an artisan co-op and on-site gift shop, and dine at The Last Run Restaurant. Some activities, like the Elf Limited train ride, have been put on hold this year because of COVID-19. But plan on returning next year, when organizers working to promote the historic community will once again celebrate the most wonderful time of year with all of the traditional Cass holiday regalia.
