Just steps away from the brick sidewalks of downtown Lewisburg stands a home that has watched over the community for over a century. With tall gables and aged floors, Washington Street Quarters (WSQ) invites guests to settle in—if only for a few days—and truly feel at home.
Built between 1918 and 1920, the home has been a private residence, a gift shop, and an architect’s office over the decades. In 2020, just as the world slowed down, Pam and Kevin Workman saw the potential in its bones and character. They purchased the house during the pandemic, determined to rewrite its story while writing a new chapter of their own.
“We wanted to create a space that felt like family—comfortable, clean, and full of warmth,” Pam Workman says. And that’s exactly what they’ve done. After a full renovation down to the studs, they rebuilt each room to honor historic roots while incorporating the modern comforts today’s travelers desire.

Old-World Details Meet Modern Touches
Staying at WSQ feels like stepping into a boutique retreat that offers hushed whispers of the past and all the conveniences of the present. The home’s original maple floors ground each room with age and authenticity, while high ceilings lend a sense of space. Architectural details—like stained-glass transoms, antique lamps, and fluted glass accents—pay homage to the home’s Victorian roots.
Although many ornate elements had been removed by past owners, the Workmans thoughtfully reintroduced historical charm. Several antique fixtures and period-style doors recall the early 20th century, while plush furnishings, faux fireplaces, luxurious bathrooms, and thoughtful amenities bring modern-day refinement. Outside, a brick patio and mature trees create a peaceful spot for morning coffee or an evening glass of wine.

WSQ offers four distinct lodging options, each designed with style and soul. The Opal Mae and Grace K suites—named after the owners’ mothers—each sleep up to four guests and reflect their namesakes in their color palettes. The one-bedroom studio with kitchenette features a bar sink, cooktop, and everything needed for a comfortable, independent stay for solo travelers or couples. For families or groups, the upstairs apartment includes a full kitchen, two queen bedrooms, and a reading room with a double bed.
Whether for a weekend or an extended visit, each accommodation includes a private entrance, en-suite bath, flat-screen TV, wi-fi, and thoughtful extras like Keurig coffee makers, microwaves, and top-quality linens and towels. Champagne celebrations, birthday decor, and welcome baskets are available by request for an added touch.
A Family Legacy of Care and Community
The Workmans are no strangers to serving their community. Longtime residents, they’ve operated fitness centers and physical therapy practices since the 1990s. Kevin Workman, originally from nearby Pocahontas County, served as an athletic trainer for local schools, while Pam Workman has been a steady force behind their shared ventures.
With their children helping to care for the home, Washington Street Quarters reflects the Workmans’ values—faith, family, and thoughtful service. “We want every guest to feel like they matter, because they do,” Pam Workman says. That sentiment is clear in the personal reservation process, the spotless rooms, and eco-conscious cleaning practices.

Part of what makes WSQ so memorable is its unbeatable location. Just outside your door, Lewisburg invites exploration—historic streets, artisan boutiques, charming cafes, and a lively cultural scene. Guests can stroll to dinner and wander back on well-lit streets, enjoying the slow, satisfying pace of small-town life.
Nearby attractions include the Greenbrier Valley Theatre, seasonal festivals, Lost World Caverns, and the West Virginia State Fairgrounds. A short drive brings you to the storied town of White Sulphur Springs or the scenic countryside of the Greenbrier Valley.
Plan Your Stay
Rates at WSQ are refreshingly straightforward, and on-site parking is complimentary: The studio is under $150 per night including tax and fees, while suites average about $225. A one-time $30 cleaning fee applies per unit. Most of the year, there’s no minimum stay, though summer weekends require two nights. WSQ is listed on Airbnb and other sites, but Pam Workman recommends booking directly through their website or by phone for the best rates and personalized service.

Whether you’re a road-tripper seeking a restful base, a couple planning a weekend escape, or a traveler who prefers character over commercial, Washington Street Quarters offers a stay where hospitality welcomes you home. Reserve your getaway online, or call directly for availability and personalized service.
