According to the American Heart Association, heart disease is the leading cause of death among West Virginians and across the United States. Heart disease presents itself in many different ways and can be something a person is born with or, more commonly, something that develops during a person’s lifetime. For many West Virginians, heart disease and its potentially life-threatening symptoms are both preventable and treatable.
One of the most common heart conditions is a heart attack. Every year, more than 800,000 Americans have a heart attack, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. When a person is experiencing a heart attack, knowing where to go and who to trust for treatment is paramount. For many patients in West Virginia, the Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center is the obvious choice.
Advancing Heart Care in West Virginia
As a nationally recognized and accredited center, the Mon Health Heart & Vascular team leads the way in expert heart care in West Virginia and across Appalachia. Mon Health Medical Center in Morgantown is the first and only center in West Virginia to receive Electrophysiology Accreditation and is the first accredited hospital in West Virginia and 24th in the nation to receive a HeartCARE Center National Distinction of Excellence from the American College of Cardiology (ACC). These recognitions are the highest that hospitals can receive from the ACC and are achieved by meeting extensive accreditation criteria and through providing exceptional heart care with repeatable success.
In January 2024, Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center was awarded Chest Pain Center Accreditation with Primary PCI by the ACC based on rigorous on-site evaluation of the staff’s ability to evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients who may be experiencing a heart attack. Additionally, Mon Health Medical Center is Echocardiography-accredited and a HeartFlow CT Quality Award recipient for advancements in cardiac imaging and is the first hospital in the region to offer WATCHMAN FLX™ for the treatment of atrial fibrillation (AFib).
“At Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center, we are committed to setting the gold standard in heart care and educating West Virginians to increase healthy habits and decrease their risk of heart disease,” said Dr. Bradford Warden, Executive Director and Chief of Cardiology at Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center. “We are leading the way in advancements to heart care and, above all else, are dedicated to providing a personalized and high-quality experience for each of our patients.”
High-Tech Solutions, Warm Touch Approach
In 2023, Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center implemented yet another advanced procedure, providing patients with better outcomes for common heart-related issues: the Inari FlowTriever Device, the first device to be awarded an FDA indication for treatment of pulmonary embolism (PE).
PE is a common yet devastating condition in which one or more pulmonary arteries becomes blocked by a blood clot. Over the years, PE has been treated with various success rates. Oftentimes, patients with PE must undergo multiple procedures or use clot-busting medications that pose a significant bleeding risk. However, with the use of the Inari FlowTriever, Mon Health Heart & Vascular patients are seeing significant clinical benefits.
In January 2024, a Morgantown man with PE came to the Emergency Department at Mon Health Medical Center. Dr. Krishna Kishore Bingi, Cardiologist at Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center, was on his way home for the evening when he got a call about this patient’s condition. Dr. Bingi came back to the hospital and performed an emergency thrombectomy with the Inari FlowTriever, saving the patient’s life.
“He was at the right place at the right time with the right people to get the heart care that he needed to survive,” said Dr. Bingi. “I can say that, at Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center, we are second to none in the country in what we do in cardiovascular health. We are the best, and I’m proud to be working here.”
Patients receive the one-on-one care they deserve at the Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center, where providers see people, not just patients.

Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center is proud to deliver expert heart care that is both accessible and close to home for patients across the region. With strategically located centers in Elkins, Fairmont, Grafton, Kingwood, Morgantown, and Weston as well as McHenry, Maryland, and telemedicine appointments available in Parkersburg and Grantsville, Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center continues to set the gold standard in providing accessible heart care. Additionally, now as part of Vandalia Health, Mon Health System and Davis Health System partner to provide improved access to cardiac care in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
By strategically placing centers in key communities, Mon Health aims to minimize the travel burden on its patients, allowing them to receive advanced treatment without the added stress of long journeys.
“At the Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center, we are removing barriers for patients in rural areas and meeting them where they are to provide the advanced care that they need,” said Dr. Anthony Roda-Renzelli, Interventional Cardiologist. “I’m proud to be a part of a comprehensive team of providers who care deeply about West Virginians and advancing heart health across the state.”
The Mon Health Heart & Vascular Center stands at the forefront of heart health care in West Virginia and serves as a beacon of hope to its patients. As Mon Health System continues to evolve and innovate, its mission remains clear: to enhance the health of the communities it serves, one person at a time.
