Keynote Speaker
Natalie Tennant

Natalie E. Tennant is currently the newest Kanawha County commissioner and is the first woman to serve in that position. During her first couple of months on the job, her work has focused on economic development, child care, and recreational opportunities in the county.
During her eight years as West Virginia’s elected secretary of state, Natalie earned a reputation as an innovative and visionary leader and was recognized nationally as a pioneer in elections administration, business development, and financial accountability.
A respected voting rights leader, Natalie helps expand and influence voter registration opportunities across the country. She testified in front of U.S. Senate and congressional committees and various state legislative committees about the importance of improving the election process and access to voting.
Natalie is the first West Virginian chosen to participate in the highly respected Aspen Institute’s Rodel Fellowship for Public Leadership and traveled to China and India as part of an international exchange. As a Harvard University Kennedy School Institute of Politics resident fellow, she mentored students in public service, community involvement, and policy development. She is also a voting rights advisor for the Brennan Center for Justice at New York University School of Law.
Natalie earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from West Virginia University, where she also served as the first female Mountaineer Mascot.
