Golden Delicious Apple Dumplings


  • 4 Golden Delicious apples peeled and cored
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 ⁄4 cup butter
  • 1 ⁄2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 packages prepared pie dough thawed


  • Preheat the oven to 350°.
  • Place a sheet of dough on a floured surface. Use a bowl (larger than the apple) and a knife to cut two circles from each sheet.
  • May need to cut one circle, then gather and roll out excess dough to make a second circle. Repeat with the remaining sheet.
  • Place an apple in the center of each piece of dough.
  • Fold the dough around the apple and press it together to form a ball.
  • Spray a 9x13-inch pan with cooking spray.
  • Place dumplings in prepared pan.
  • Make the sauce: In a small saucepan over medium-low heat, combine brown sugar, water, butter, and cinnamon.
  • Heat just to boiling, stirring often.
  • Pour mixture over dumplings.
  • Bake 30–40 minutes or until apples are soft and dough is golden brown.
  • Baste dumplings with the syrup several times during baking.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
