Ooh La Lucy Celebrates a Milestone
Owner Mikayla Dent and the Lucy girls at Ooh La Lucy boutique in Charleston do whatever it takes to ensure their customers have a joyful shopping experience and leave the boutique feeling refreshed and confident in their new look.
Ooh La Lucy was not always a brick and mortar; in fact, Dent sold her favorite fashions on wheels for about six months. She first opened as a mobile boutique in 2017 right before she graduated from the University of Kentucky with a bachelor’s degree in merchandising, apparel, and textiles. Dent says the idea for the mobile boutique came to her right in the middle of class. Although the boutique moved into a permanent space, the mobile version is still available to be booked for parties and events.
“The store is full of pieces that I love and that I think are wearable and things that women will get a lot of use out of,” Dent says. “It’s also things that I wasn’t seeing a lot of in West Virginia before we opened—maybe a little bit trendier, just different from what was in other stores. I think we found the sweet spot with really wearable clothes that women can buy, find useful, love, and feel good in.”
You’ll also find jewelry and giftable items in the shop, and Dent says they sell a ton of earrings. In fact, the shop has developed a reputation for its unique earring collection. “You can always come in and find a pair to match any outfit,” Dent says.
After many years of success and dreams come true, Dent celebrated five years of Ooh La Lucy this year.
“We had our biggest party to date,” she says. “It was a really surreal day where a lot of people who literally shopped the truck on its first day are still with us and were able to come in our store and hang out and tell stories about how far we’ve come, what they’ve done in our clothes, their favorite pieces over the years.”
As for future plans for Ooh La Lucy, Dent says, “My eyes are always open. I’m always looking.” She is also interested in growing the boutique’s e-commerce and mobile app.
