Eating Pizza with Fletcher's Grove
Rock/jazz/funk jam band Fletcher’s Grove will celebrate the release of the new album, Pepperoni Pizza, this weekend with shows in Morgantown and Huntington. “Pizza was a huge part in the album. This is my last year of college, so it was either going to be pepperoni pizza or ramen noodles,” says Ryan Krofcheck, lead guitarist and singer in Fletcher’s Grove. “The guys at the recording studio were always ordering pizza from across the street. We already had Pepperoni Pizza as a song that our fans knew and we thought the concept of having a pizza box with a pizza as the disc was clever."
Originally from Teays Valley, the band formed in high school and now calls Morgantown home. Fletcher’s Grove is made up of Adam Greene (drums), Wes Hager (lead guitar/flute), Ryan Krofcheck (rhythm guitar/vocals), Matt Marion (percussion/vocals), and Taylor Pratt (bass). The band recorded at Bebop Studios in Morgantown. “Bebop Studios was perfect because they were eager to give us a good sound. We laid down each track one by one individually as opposed to our last album, where we would play and record each of us at the same time,” Ryan says.
As digital technology changes the way music is recorded, the band decided to try something different with Pepperoni Pizza. “We’ve decided to break this up into two releases over a year. Things are changing in the industry with releasing singles and digital music, so it’s better for everyone if we keep a consistent level of new material and stay fresh by recording a couple of times a year versus once a year or every two years,” Ryan says.
Fletcher’s Grove has played to sold-out audiences at 123 Pleasant Street in Morgantown, and they are excited to pack the house at 123 again this weekend. “We cannot wait for the whole weekend CD release at 123, and then we’ll head back closer to where we grew up, in Huntington, at the V-Club. We are having 600LBS OF SIN play with us. They are a great band and good people. We match up well," Ryan says.
This spring and summer, Fletcher’s Grove plans to tour Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and West Virginia. They will record a third studio album this fall.
